Our History
Realty87 began in 1887, when George T. Hedges founded Hedges Realty—laying the foundation for one of the longest-continuously operated real estate firms in Iowa. Over the decades, we’ve grown through leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to service.
In 1982, the company entered a new era under the ownership of Carl Esker and Ron and Kay Baty. A few years later, in 1989, we joined the Coldwell Banker franchise, expanding our reach and gaining national recognition while staying deeply connected to our local roots.
Now known as Realty87, our name honors the year it all began—and reflects our dedication to both tradition and progress. For more than 135 years, we’ve remained proudly local, independently owned, and committed to guiding generations of Iowans home.
